TRAILS, BIRDING Covering 800 ha in total, this reserve spreads from the southern edge of Bredasdorp up the slope of a 386 m hill, from which there are good views of the town. An 86 ha cultivated area is set aside to protect unspoilt examples of coastal bush and montane fynbos (heath), including a variety of protea and erica species. A number of small mammals occur here, as do several bird species that are associated lesser double-collared, malachite and orangebreasted sunbirds. Location: South-western sector; south-east of Caledon. Access: From Caledon take the R316 south-eastwards for 74 km to Bredasdorp. From the main road turn right into independent Rd and then right again into Van Riebeeck Rd, following signposts to the entrance gate. Accommodation: None. There is a hotel and a caravan and camping site in Bredasdorp. Other facilities: Nature trails. Open: Throughout the year. Opening time: Sunrise to sunset.
